What is Hyporest?
Hyporest is the first and only dextrose product with no taste. It provides you with fast-acting carbohydrates and allows for individual, highly precise dosing – exactly the way you need it. Each mini tablet contains 200 mg of dextrose.
The mini-tablets are swallowed whole with a little liquid. An ultra-thin protective coating prevents direct contact with teeth and tongue. The protective coating only dissolves after swallowing, releasing the dextrose rapidly. Especially convenient at night or after brushing your teeth.
How does Hyporest differ from classic glucose products and other hypo aids?

Classic glucose products and many snacks rely on sweet taste and a sense of enjoyment. Hyporest takes a different approach: it provides glucose without a taste experience in the mouth. This means you do not get that typical sweet trigger that often makes you want more of your favourite snacks. This makes it easier to stick to the amount you really need.
Thanks to its mini tablet format, you can dose in very small increments and add more step by step if needed – without the risk of immediately overshooting your target. Especially practical if you use an insulin pump and want to fine-tune your carbohydrate intake.

Don’t conventional glucose products work faster because glucose is already absorbed through the oral mucosa while chewing?
That is a common myth. In reality, glucose can only be absorbed through the oral mucosa in negligible amounts. For this to have any meaningful effect, the glucose would need to remain in the mouth or under the tongue for several minutes — and even then, studies show absorption of less than 10%.
When glucose products are chewed and swallowed normally, they simply do not stay in the mouth long enough. The actual, relevant absorption of glucose takes place in the small intestine.
What matters, therefore, is not whether a product is chewed, but how quickly the glucose becomes available in the digestive system after swallowing. This is exactly where Hyporest comes in: it has been specifically developed to disintegrate quickly in the stomach and release the glucose rapidly — so it reaches the place where it is actually needed.
Isn’t sugar in liquid form absorbed the fastest? Wouldn’t cola, juice, or at least liquid glucose work faster?
That is a widespread misconception. Glucose is not absorbed in the stomach, but only in the small intestine. What matters for speed is therefore not whether something is liquid or solid, but how quickly the glucose moves from the stomach into the small intestine.
Liquids generally leave the stomach quite quickly – but cola, juices and other highly sugary drinks in particular are very concentrated. The body first has to “dilute” them in the stomach before they are passed on, and that is exactly what can even slow down a highly concentrated drink.
In addition, cola and juice do not contain pure glucose, but a mixture of different sugars – including fructose and sucrose. Some of these components first have to be broken down; others are not available to the body as blood sugar quite as immediately as pure glucose. Cola and juice can therefore help quickly, but they are not automatically the most direct and precise solution.
Liquid glucose also does not offer a fundamental advantage. On the contrary: a solid form of glucose that quickly disintegrates in the stomach can even provide pure glucose faster than a highly concentrated drink that the body first has to dilute.
The only decisive factor is how quickly pure glucose reaches the small intestine. That is exactly what Hyporest is designed for: it disintegrates quickly in the stomach and rapidly releases the glucose.
